How to remove the white background from an image and make it transparent

Uniform backgrounds are the easiest

When the background is white, light gray, or a relatively constant color and touches the edges, it is easier to distinguish it from the subject. Scenes with hair, complex shadows, or similar colors between subject and background require more advanced techniques.

Start with medium sensitivity

Too low sensitivity may leave debris. One that is too high can begin to erase areas of the object. The safest way is to start somewhere in the middle and work your way up gradually.

Check the transparency pattern

The gridded board indicates which areas were left transparent. Mentally zoom in on edges and details: If you see halos, reprocess with a different setting.

Save as PNG

When to use a more advanced tool

If the background is a room, landscape, or scene with many colors, a method based primarily on color may not correctly separate the subject. In these cases, artificial intelligence segmentation is usually more appropriate.
