How to reduce an image to less than 2 MB for a form

Why it is advisable to leave margin

When a form indicates a maximum of 2 MB, do not try to leave the file at exactly 2.00 MB. Different systems may display the size slightly differently. A result around 1.7 or 1.8 MB usually leaves enough margin without forcing you to destroy quality.

Starts with balanced compression

Upload the image to the compressor and test the balanced level first. Check the final weight and expand the preview. If the file already meets the limit and retains important details, you don't need stronger compression.

When to use high compression

If the original photo is very heavy or has a huge resolution, high mode can be useful. Especially check faces, letters, signatures and fine edges. In photographed documents, excessive compression can make the text more difficult to read.

The format may change the result

A photo saved as PNG usually takes up more space than the same photo in JPG or WebP. If the form supports multiple formats and you don't need transparency, converting can be a second option after compressing.

Check the downloaded file

Before uploading to the form, check the final file size from the file explorer. It is also a good idea to open it once to confirm that it downloaded correctly and that the image is still readable.
